TOEFL Speaking - Sample Questions and Answers

TOEFL Speaking - Sample Questions and Answers In the TOEFL Speaking section, there are four speaking questions. This page has sample questions and answers for TOEFL speaking question one (the independent speaking question).TOEFL Speaking Sample Questions and ResponsesAgree/Disagree Style QuestionsQuestion 1“State whether you agree or disagree with the following statement. Then explain your reasons using specific details in your argument. Teachers should assign daily homework to students. document.createElement('audio'); https://www.toeflresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Speaking-Question-1.mp3I agree with the idea of giving children homework on a daily basis. I feel this way for two reasons.First of all, I think that it will help children to retain what they learn for a much longer period of time. The only real way for kids to absorb a lesson is to actually go home and repeat it as much as they possibly can. And in the long run this kind of thing will lead to a lot more academic success.Secondly, I believe that homework can actually give children an opportunity to bond with their parents. For example, I got a lot of daily homework when I was in elementary school. And Id go home and do it with my mom and dad, and Id ask them questions whenever I was having trouble. And in time we actually became really close.“Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Children should help their parents with household chores as soon as they are old enough. Use details and examples in your response.” https://www.toeflresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Speaking-Sample-4.mp3I think its a great idea for kids to do household chores as soon as theyre old enough.First of all, this can teach children some really valuable skills that will come in handy later in life. For instance, I was responsible for cooking breakfast for my little brother every day before we went to school when we were both kids. As a result, when I went away to college as a teenager I stayed really healthy because I could cook my ow n meals instead of always going out for fast food like my friends and classmates.Secondly, parents and children can do household chores together and this gives them a change to bond. You know, as they work on things like cleaning dishes or cooking food they can chat, and the kids might open up about whats going on in their lives.Paired Choice Style QuestionsQuestion 1“There are many different approaches to academic studies, and all of them have specific benefits. Do you prefer to study for tests in a group, or to study alone? Include details and examples to support your explanation.” https://www.toeflresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Speaking-Sample-2.mp3I prefer studying for my tests all by myself. I feel this way for two reasons.First of all, I can focus entirely on what I need to learn. When we study in a group everyone has different weak spots, and they all deserve to be touched on, even if some members of the group are really strong in those areas. In contrast, when we work alone we can focus entirely on our own weak spots and therefore get the best possible test score.Secondly, Im easily distracted which can have disastrous effects when I study in a group. For instance, last year I was preparing for a midterm exam with a bunch of classmates but we ended up chatting a lot about music and sports instead of studying. And, therefore, my test score was quite bad.Question 2“Some people like to watch television news programs every day, while others like to watch them only now and then. Which do you prefer? Include details and examples to support your explanation.” https://www.toeflresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Speaking-Sample-5.mp3I definitely prefer to watch the news only occasionally. There are two reasons for this.First of all, too much time spent watching the nightly news makes me feel really anxious. For instance, if I hear about some new war or disaster every day of the week I get really depressed and this make it a lot harder to function in my daily life.Secondly, I think watching the news every day can be a waste of time. Like, if I spend an hour every day watching a news broadcast I just dont have enough time for more important things. For example, this month I stopped watching the nightly news and suddenly it became a lot easier to get all of my homework assignments done.Good Idea StyleQuestion 1Some companies have rules that forbid employees from using personal cell phones during working hours. Do you think this is a good idea? Why or why not? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. https://www.toeflresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Speaking-Sample-3.mp3I think its a really terrible idea to tell employees that they cant use their phones during working hours.First of all, our personal phones are the only way for us to hear about emergencies affecting our loved ones. And this is something we want to hear about as soon as humanly possible. You know, if a worker feels nervous about being out of touch with his loved ones during the day, he might actually start looking around for a job that lets him use his phone and this would be really bad for business.Secondly, I think personal phones can maybe improve our morale at work. We can relieve our stress by making a quick phone call or looking at a social media post. And if we feel happier well probably performer a lot better.Question 2Nowadays, some people use extreme methods, including surgery, to change their appearance. They do this because they want to look more attractive. Do you think this is a good idea? Support your answer with details and examples. https://www.toeflresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Recording-78.mp3I think its a really fantastic idea to get surgery to change your experience. I feel this way for two reasons.First of all, it can make us feel a lot more self-confident. If we really like our experience we can feel a lot less shy when talking to people. And it will be easier to interact and therefore well achieve more success in our personal and professional lives.Secondly, if we dont like the result of our surgery we can always change it back. I mean, plastic surgery is really affordable these days, so if you get some surgery and it looks bad you can just get another procedure done. For instance, Ive changed my nose about six times already, and the expense to me has been pretty minimal.TOEFL Speaking Guides and TemplatesComplete templates for each essay task.Detailed guides for every speaking question.Sign Up for our Essay Evaluation Service!Want to know how you will score on the test? Business of Law

Question: Describe about the Australian Consumer Law. Answer: Introduction Australian Consumer Law provides uniform protection to all consumers as well as to the small businesses in all sectors and jurisdiction. Australian Consumer Law sets out the principles and the standards that a business enterprise needs to observe while carrying out their business transaction with the consumers. It prohibits unfair trade practices in respect of small business as well as the consumers. The Treasury Legislation Amendment (Small Business and Unfair Contract Terms) Bill 2015 amended the Australian Consumer Law and was enumerated in Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010[1] and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001. The primary objective of this Bill was to protect the interest of the small business from unfair trade contracts and by safeguarding its bargaining power in the market. Discussion In Australia, consumers are given adequate protection from unfair trade practices since 2010 whereas, protection towards the small business were quite realized lately by the government. A small business refers to the organization that employs less than twenty employees or has less than prescribed threshold for a multi-year contract of $100,000 0r $250,000[2]. The government selected the transaction value threshold of the small business after consultation with different stakeholders. The purpose was to provide protection to the small business when they engage in day-to-day trade and transact with the consumers. The principles will also encourage the small business to conduct large contract with due care and diligence for the fundamental success of their business[3]. The ACCC plays a significant role in communicating the small business promptly and evidently. It also provides them guidance while dealing with their individual matters. It also advises them on alternative dispute resolution processes. As ACCC has a unique center of attention on small business, franchising, business liaison and business associations, it enables an effective competition in the sector of small business, encourages fair-trading, and strengthens its position in the free economy[4]. The business practices must not limit competitions. The small business must be aware of their rights and obligations when they deal with the whole sellers, other business organizations, and suppliers. The small businesses are protected from anti-competitive behavior and false or misleading claims under the Australian Consumer Law. The ACCC has protected the collective bargaining of the small business by offering a streamlined process for the parties to seek authorization arrangements of collective bargaining. Few such unfair trade practices are to enter into a contract that will permit either of one party to terminate or limit the performance of the contract or penalizing the other party for the breach of any provisions or vary the terms of the contract at its own will without any negotiations or taking due advantage of the bargaining power of the other party[5]. The court is empowered to strike down any terms of the contract that appears to it as unfair. The small business must enter into the contract having standard forms in consistent with the new unfair contract terms laws. Any such unfair contract terms shall be held void in the eyes of the law[6]. However, the small business must not enter into any unfair trade practices and must treat their consumers honestly and fairly. They are not supposed to sell banned products to the consumers. They must meet the requirements as seller under the Australian Consumer Law such as they must not engage in misleading and deceptive trade practices. The business organizations must not engage in unconscionable trade practices particularly, which are unfair and oppressive. The High Court noted that the aim of the law was to protect the competitive process and not protect the interest of a particular person. If any competition is sufficiently proved harmful, then such competitors can be eliminated[7]. It is often seen that small business becomes the victims of misuse of market powers. They face different competitive issues compared to the large business houses. Thus, they are included under the competitive laws and are provided protection from harsh competitions. As the small business lacks the sophisticated modern means to attain information on the trade laws and lacks resources, they are also vulnerable as the consumers. They too need to be protected from unfair trade practices and unconscionable conducts in the marketplace. Thus, they are also protected under the Consumer Law[8]. The small suppliers need to be protected from the big supermarkets so that their legitimate needs are not shadowed. In the competitive market, they must be safeguarded so that the competitive process does not worsen their condition. In ACCC v Coles[9], the Federal Court ordered Coles to pay pecuniary penalties of $10 million for engaging in unconscionable trade practice with the suppliers. Coles is one of the famous supermarkets in Australia. Therefore, it provides good access to the customers. Coles had demanded high payments from the suppliers, which it was not supposed to do. It also withheld money from them illegally. Therefore, the threatening of Coles was alleged to be deliberate, serious and repeated misconduct as it misused the bargaining powers. The conduct was not done in good faith and conscience and was against the accepted standard norms of trade. Conclusion Thus, we see that small business being vulnerable and unconscious of the standard trade practices must be protected in the same ways as the consumers. Therefore, they are protected under the Consumer Laws. As they have weak bargaining power compared to the big business organization, they are often exploited. The Australian Courts imposes heavy penalties as deterrence on those who exploits the small business by inducing unfair trade practices and engaging in misleading and deceptive trade practices. ACCC acts as a watchdog to safeguard the interests of the small business consistently. They also provide valuable advice to the small business so that they can protect themselves from any exploitations. Under any competitive laws reviews the legitimate needs of the small business are always given due consideration. Thus, we can say that the future small businesses are adequately protected and safeguarded under Australian Consumer Law. References ACCC,. Australias role in ww2 essays

Australias role in ww2 essays Australias Role in World War 1 The Gallipoli campaign was a major land and sea operation of World War 1, in which British, French, Australian and New Zealand forces unsuccessfully attempted an invasion of turkey. The invasion was confined to the Dardanelles strait and the tip of the Gallipoli Peninsula near Istanbul. The Campaign arose with problems faced by Russia; Russia was allied to Britain and France. They wanted to send men and supplies to Europe although this supply route went from the black sea through the Sea of Marmara, then through the Dardanelle straits to the Mediterranean. Though the Turkish whom were allied to Germany and Austria controlled all of this area. The Turks insured that no allied supplies would get through to Russia, and as the Dardanelles was the key to Russias supply route. Russia asked the British and the French to clear the Dardanelles of Turkish control. The Dardanelles was a narrow stretch of water almost 100 km long The British decided that if they could successfully invade the Gallipoli peninsula it would allow them to open up the Dardanelles, land a large number of troops and invade the rest of Turkey. What initially was to be exclusively a naval affair failed in February 1915 when several British and French ships were damaged by floating mines. A land invasion was then decided on. They formed an allied force consisting of 75 000 men, 30 000 of which where ANZAC troops. The Australians were glad that they could begin fighting as they had become tired of waiting in Egypt, they had been training for 14 weeks under the command of Lieutenant-General William Birdwood. Their frustration and boredom led to riots and pranks in Cairo, these actions earned the Australian troops a name for being reckless and uncontrollable. There was a general sense of excitement among the troops when they knew they were finally going to take part in the war. The plan was for the ANZACS to land ...

Mayas Notebook

Mayas Notebook Karla Vargas Vargas 1Dr. CK. MatheyLiterature and composition26 October 2014Drug Lifestyle and AddictionDrugs can be first used due to curiosity but can lead to a life changing addiction. Influence to try drugs can come from neighbors or even friends. According to a 2008 NYC health study "Nearly one million New Yorkers report using illicit drugs in the past year...Cocaine use increased most dramatically among men, more than doubling to 5.8% in 2006/07"(Illicit Drug). With drug consumption increasing, the percentage of deaths related to overdosing increase as well. I strongly believe family support is essential to overcome drug addiction and a better life for the user. In the short story "Sonny's Blues" by James Balwin, Sonny fell into a heroin addiction, but with the help of his brother, he was able to improve his future. In Maya's Notebook by Isabel Allende, Maya suffered with multiple drug addictions and fell into a life of prostitution, but with the help of her Grandma, she was ab le move and starts a new life. Both stories raise the question; can the support from a family member influence a drug addict into changing his or her life around before it is too late?In "Sonny's Blues" by James Baldwin, we see how Sonny is lead into the drug lifestyle mainly due to the influence his neighborhood had on him Sonny grew up in Harlem, a neighborhood in where drugs could be seen consumed in playgrounds. Strategic plan for one of the companies listed on Forbes International Essay

Strategic plan for one of the companies listed on Forbes International Top Ten list - Essay Example In today’s modern era, every company strives to dominate its market. In order to gain any market segment, a company must have a business strategic plan implemented to achieve its goals. Each year Forbes.com comes with a list of top corporations that are excelling in their market. One of the firms that have made a dramatic impact in its industry is Toyota. Toyota is one of the few companies that has the honor to claim itself as â€Å"not only the best automaker in the world, but also maybe the best corporation†. This paper will discuss the strategic management of Toyota and its quest to become the market leader in its industry. One of the most unique strategic planning that Toyota has implemented is to employee top management positions from Japan. Although this move might not work for every corporation, Toyota has the reputation to preserve its brand reputation. From design to corporate decisions, all operations take place in Tokyo[2]. The reason for this is clearly expl ained by John Paul MacDuffee, a professor at local university as he states, â€Å"This is about a greater maturity about globalizing and transferring knowledge that Toyota certainly has at this point.†[2]. In addition, these executives decided to ask their suppliers to reduce their cost by 30%. Management understood that every little step taken by them will influence the company in the long-run. By building a solid environment of knowledge and design, Toyota is able to utilize mass production methods[1]. How is this achieved? Well, the company is a firm believer in the Just-in-time â€Å"lean production.† Toyota’s lean manufacturing system is a critical for its strategic planning by enhancing the flow of work [1]. In addition, it focuses to reduce the organization’s waste, which dramatically increases customer value. Moreover, it levels of production level which eliminates unevenness in its manufacturing system. Just-in-time improves organization's return on investment, quality, and efficiency[1]. Undoubtedly, much of the success that Toyota has enjoyed is due to this model that is collaborated and implemented through planning and executive models. The current strategic planning for Toyota is to introduce a new line of hybrid cars. As humanity progresses to the 21st century, society has becoming more environmental friendly. Hence, Toyota saw this as an opportunity to expand its line of cars. Hence, it decided to invest heavily in research and development in order to build hybrid-electric vehicles [3]. Toyota’s ability to fund in development was critical as it poured millions of dollars without hurting its capital budget. After years of researching, Toyota decided to aggressively showcase its new hybrid Camry and Highlander, two cars that are known for quality and durability [3]. However, it was met by a tough rival as Ford introduced its newest S.U.V at the same time where Toyota showcased its news Prius. While other companyà ¢â‚¬â„¢s struggled to design hybrid cars that produced revenue, Toyota was already enjoying decent profits. Interestingly enough, the company never attempts to make any bold of false promises as other companies. Toyota executives acknowledged the fact that gas prices will continue to rise as oil becomes scarce. Furthermore, it was clear that creating an automobile that was â€Å"environmental friendly† is clearly going to be the future of the industry[3]. Hence, by carefully forecasting the

Reflection Paper on Romance on a Global Stage, by Nicole Constable Essay

Reflection Paper on Romance on a Global Stage, by Nicole Constable - Essay Example There are more than 350 matrimonial and dating websites on the internet that match the profiles of men and women with people from all over the globe and romantic union clearly demonstrates the amalgamation of the global community. Nicole Constable has discussed this aspect of the society in her unique study and compiled it in her book titled â€Å"Romance on a global stage: Pen pals, virtual ethnography and mail-order marriage’, where the substance of her prose focuses on real individuals in a romantic or matrimonial alliance with people in a different country and culture. (Constable, 2003, p. 198-208) The basic premise of the relationship centers on men from the west and eastern women; primarily Filipina or Chinese women. Constables work is not only based on theoretical evidences but also anecdotal that gives the readers a general insight into the matter. Marriage is one the most universal concepts and as mentioned earlier, as the internet is becoming more and more synonymou s with the world’s population, online relationships and mail-order marriages have become extremely common and as a result the differences between the value system between people belonging to various cultural backgrounds have become even more pronounced; however, the values have undergone a series of change in recent, as a result the global community has become more uniform. ... Online dating and mail-order marriage is a long-distance relationship, and couples are able to stay in touch only through the internet, telephone or the conventional method of writing letters to each other. (Piper & Roces, 2003) Sometimes, individuals also pay visits to their significant others in their home country until they finally immigrate. The cost involved is very high and often the immigration procedure takes a really long while due to rampant bureaucracy and red-tapism that further prolongs the waiting period for the husbands and their wives. During this time there are a number of issues that the couples face and must resolve in order to ensure a prosperous future together. The Asian women, who have applied for an American visa, have to endure the biting remarks of their peers that their husbands might have found someone else. Often officials working at the immigration office or INS are governed by their prejudices and biases towards various cultures and races and in order t o vent out their anger, they delay the procedure and make the wait longer for couples. In case of Freddie, who had a Filipina wife was subjected to the anger and frustration brought about by the immigration procedure due to the fact that the immigration had a personal grudge against people from the Philippines and thought they did not deserve to be allowed in the country. Their grudges and anger towards the race is a deep-seated one and has it origin in the country’s history whereby, Philippines chose independence instead of becoming a pert of the United States. However, the current economic situation of the country cause the people to move to America in pursuit of greener pasture but before that they have to face the immigration

Salmonella Infection: Causes and Effects

Salmonella Infection: Causes and Effects Recently, food safety is an increasingly important public health issue with news of food poisoning reported daily. Governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. These efforts are in response to an increasing number of food safety problems and rising consumer concerns. Foodborne is any illness resulting from the consumption of contaminated food, pathogenic bacteria, viruses or parasites that contaminate the food. Foodborne disease is a common, costly yet preventable and is a widespread public health problem, both in urban and rural areas. Symptoms of foodborne illness range from mild gastroenteritis to life-threatening neurologic, hepatic and renal syndromes. Foodborne diseases are incorrectly referred to as food poisoning due to the similarity in symptoms. Examples of foodborne diseases are Botulism, Brucellosis, Salmonellosis and many more. Salmonellosis is a type of foodborne disease caused by the Salmonella bacterium (WebMD, 2011). Salmonell a food poisoning happens when the gastrointestinal tract or the digestive tract is infected by a variety of types of Salmonella bacteria (Brian MD, 2011). The two most common are Salmonella serotype Typhimurium and Salmonella serotype Enteritidis. According to the United States Department of Health Human Services (South Heartland District, n.d.), approximately 40,000 cases of Salmonellosis are reported in the United States each year. The actual number of infections may be 30 times greater because many milder cases are not diagnosed or reported.   Salmonella bacteria live in the intestines of people and animals and are often passed on from the preparation of food to the process of food consumption. The main cause of salmonella is due to the improper hygiene of food handlers. A frequent cause is when a food handler does not wash his/her hand with soap after using a bathroom. Food becomes contaminated by the unwashed hands of an infected food handler. Infection can also spread from cutting boards, counters and kitchen utensils. Besides, some food can be contaminated such as meat during the butchering process, fish when harvested in contaminated waters and fruits and vegetables if being watered with contaminated waters or during the washing process before distribution. Furthermore, public are aware of the handling of certain animals can spread the salmonella infection. Snakes, turtles, birds, chicks and other reptiles may carry salmonella. Children are exposed to salmonella by holding and cuddling infected animals. Salmonella can also be found in the faeces of some pets, especially those with diarrhoea (Jerry Shaw, 2010). The history of Salmonella outbreak is between 2002-2003 when there was a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections which were ultimately associated with the consumption of raw milk. Sixty-two people were infected from various countries including Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Illinois. Out of the 32 food samples tested, five were positive of Salmonella Typhimurium including three raw skim milk samples, one raw milk butter sample and one raw cream sample. Upon investigation, only the consumption of raw milk was associated significantly with the illnesses (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2009). A recent outbreak of Salmonella was linked to tainted melons have killed two victims and leaving 141 ills in 20 states in the United States. It is said that the salmonella outbreak linked to the contaminated rock melon grown in Southern Indiana. Agriculture experts said that the frequent problems with rock melon come from the nature of the melons and sloppy agricultural practices (Liz Szabo, 2012). One may prone to Salmonella infection during travelling which is more common in developing countries with poor sanitation. People with pets and reptile also have a higher risk of Salmonella infection. People living in group housing are more prevalent to Salmonella infection simply because they are exposed to more people. In addition, food prepared at the universities canteen often uses large amount of ground meat or unshelled eggs that have been pooled from many source. Besides, infants and elderly are more prone to Salmonella bacteria due to the weak immune system in their bodies. Besides, Salmonella infection happens more frequently during the summer compare to other seasons (Victor Smida, 2011). Salmonella germs are resistant in the environment. They can survive about 5 to 6 months in polluted water and feces, survive and reproduce in at room temperature in wet environments, in food and infusion solutions. Transmissions of Enteric Salmonellosis are caused by Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi A, B and C. All the clinical entities are different in characteristic development and lasting immunity of the body. Contamination is made orally when a person eats infected food or drink infected water. After an incubation period about 14 days, the disease begins with lethargy, malaise, fever and pain during the first week followed with constipation along this period. In the second week, the bacteria are back into circulation and will cause high fever, sensitive stomach and possibly pink macules on the abdominal skin (Victor Smida, 2011). Mayo Clinic staff (2011) stated that the symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning generally begin within 8 to 72 hours after ingesting food or beverages contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Most salmonella infections can be classified as gastroenteritis. Symptoms of Salmonellosis include fever and chills, headache, nausea, vomiting, multiple bouts of diarrhea which may be bloody and severe abdominal pain and cramps. Generally, with proper care to avoid dehydration, healthy adults can begin to seek improvement in their symptoms within a couple of days and can recover completely with a week. Most people recover without treatment. In some cases, Salmonella food poisoning can result in serious or life-threatening complications, such as severe dehydration and Reiters syndrome. A small number of people who are infected with Salmonellosis develop Reiters syndrome, a disease that can last for months or years and can lead to chronic arthritis. Seek immediate medical care if one has a change in level of consciousness or alertness, dizziness, eye irritation, painful joints, weakness and painful urination. Signs and symptoms of salmonella infection generally last four to seven days but it may take several months before the bowel habits are entirely normal. Basically, replacement of fluids and electrolytes is the focus of treatment because salmonella infection can be dehydrating. However, if the diarrhea is severe, hospitalization may require especially to younger kids, seniors and people with compromised immune systems where fluids are delivered directly into the vein. If a person is suffering from dehydration due to Salmonella, it is advisable to give the person rehydration drinks, like Pedialyte or Rehydralyte. Alternatively, the person can also be given sports drinks. Usually, it is recommended that the person continue with normal diet to obtain necessary nutrients and help in hastening process. In addition, doctor may recommend anti-diarrheal to help relieve cramping. If the salmonella bacteria are suspected to enter the bloodstream, doctor may prescribe antibiotics to kill the bacteria (OnlineMedicineTips.com, n.d.) However, prevention is better than cure. According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture, good hygiene is a priorit y when handling with food, pets and children (2011). Salmonella can be prevented by avoiding raw or unpasteurized milk and other dairy products. Wash hands after getting into contact with animal feces especially reptiles since reptiles are particularly likely to carry salmonella bacteria. Also, refrigerate and freeze leftovers right away and eat them within two or three days of refrigerating. Moreover, avoid having contact with a person who has infectious Salmonella food poisoning or its symptoms, such as vomiting and diarrhea. On top of all, drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration (Imraan Seedat, 2010).

On account of Lennie they got kicked out of town called Weed, up North. Leenie is a type of guy that is not very bright and gets frightened and confused really easy. Petting animals and picking up things that are interesting to him. Lennie and George decided to go the pool hall one night. There was a girl there that got Lennie’s eye. Influence of Health Care Delivery

Influence of health care delivery Influence of health care delivery services in the future Shellie Bosley University of Phoenix Abstract Your abstract should be one paragraph and should not exceed 120 words. It is a summary of the most important elements of your paper. All numbers in the abstract, except those beginning a sentence, should be typed as digits rather than words. To count the number of words in this paragraph, select the paragraph, and on the Tools menu click Word Count. Influence of health care delivery services in the futureThe impacts of healthcare delivery systems biggest issues are the aging and obesity. We need to understand how these can impact our lives and what we can do to address them now before they become a bigger issue in the future. Many of the Americans from the baby boomer era are becoming retired and will add to the future endeavors of the working class with many of our government programs being affected. The second contributor is obesity. Since this ca n go in hand with the aging these are the main reasons we need to look at our delivery systems. AgingWith our population of baby boomers which are born between 1946 and 1964 they will start to turn 65. This means that our numbers of aging people is likely to double from what it is now. This also has an increase due to immigrants arriving from 2005 to 2050. In the United States our aging is graying at a much slower pace. By 2050 we are expected to have one fifth of our population retired. The increased number will have a huge impact on the United States structure of many programs. The rapid change can have major social and economic issues when we do not plan for them ahead of time. The postwar baby boom in the United States has strained local hospital, public school, and postsecondary education systems, as well as the labor force as these unexpected large cohorts have moved through the life cycle. U. S. population aging has been long predicted. †(Kevin Kinsella and Wan He, â₠¬Å"An Aging World: 2008,† U. S. Census Bureau, International Population Reports P95/09-1 (Washington, DC: U. S. Government Printing Office, 2009). But this is not the only numbers that are important for policies and programs. This also affects healthcare, disability, living arrangements, kinship networks and the economy. It is about the cost and implications the Aging population will have on America. Environment Environmental factors are air pollution, food and water containments, radiation and toxic chemicals as well as health determinants. You also have factor such as socioeconomic status which means the more money and better you can live the less likely you are to be a burden on society. Behavior and lifestyle can also influence along with heredity. But the most important is health care because this is your determinate to living a long healthy life. DemographicsDemographics of the aging population more than 3. 5 million boomers turn 55. By this year the 50 and older populati on will reach 100 million. It is an increase of 31 percent this decade. They are expected to live 19 years longer and women outnumber men by almost 6 million. Half a million are grandparents with the responsibility of raising their grandchildren. The major income is social security, income from assets, private pensions, government pensions, private pensions and earnings. Most of the elderly live in metropolitan areas and they tend to move less. Most elderly are home owners and their homes do have physical problems. And most have a free and clear home where they do not owe anything on them. When it comes to work and education 6. 2 million Americans age 65 are in the work force. Between 1970 and 2008, the percentage of older persons who had completed high school rose from 28% to 77. 4%. About 20. 5% in 2008 had a bachelor's degree or higher. (http://assistedliving. about. com/od/startingabusiness/a/agingtrends. htm) Reducing The aging trend is likely to increase due to their needs bein g different than younger people.Older adults have different health care needs than younger age groups, and this will affect the demands placed on the health care system in the future. They are more likely to suffer chronic illness such as cancer and heart disease. About 84% of those age 65 and older suffer from at least one chronic condition, compared to 38% of those ages 20 to 44 [Wu and Green, 2000]. They are more to require the service of healthcare due to injuries and illness. They have more limitations than younger people and they use more prescription medications. They usually consume more ambulatory care, hospital service, nursing homes and home health services than younger people. When dealing with the aging we can implement many options to help them live a full and healthy lifestyle. We need to help them improve their health by getting regular exercise and not smoking, reduce the chronic disease. We also need increase the use of preventive services and help them understand t hat addressing the issue now will help them live a longer life. If they have a coginitive impairment, mental health issue get them address early. And provide them with education and planning for serious events. ObesityThe CDC reports that obesity rates among adults in the United States doubled between 1980 and 2012. Today, over 30% of our country’s population is obese with many not feeling this is a real issue. The increased healthcare cost created by this trend shows otherwise. When you think of health many studies show being obese increases your risk for serious health. Many serious health factors are heart disease, diabetes and many cancers. This makes the risk in healthcare cost and a decline in productivity in the economy. The current obesity rates in America are more than one third. There are no real differences between men or women.Adults aged 60 and over are more obese than younger adults. With men it is no real difference in rates but with women the rate is 42 percen t to 31 percent in women under 60. When you place children in the equation it is higher for adolescents than preschool aged children. The obesity rate is higher among boys than girls at an 18 percent to 15 percent rate. (http://www. cdc. gov/obesity/data/adult. html) Environmental factors The environmental factors that contribute to obesity are lack of healthy choices in diet and lack of exercise either from choice or lack of resources such as the store is too far to walk so they drive. With fewer options for physical activity and healthy eating it becomes difficult to make good choices. Other environmental factors are energy balance with means spending too much time watching television, playing video games and these types of things than energy building activities such as bike riding or walking. Another factor is the food industry with reasonable food portions, change in what is in them and cheaper health options for the consumer that cannot afford. Demographics Overweight in adults and children has tripled and it is estimated that one in five people in the United States is overweight. We are seeing many younger people becoming obese with the higher rates in the Hispanic, African Americans, Mexican Americans and Native Americans. The lower the families income the higher the risk for obesity rate due to lack of resources to pay for them. The higher the income the more readily the healthy food options are. Trend During the past 20 years, there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States and rates remain high. More than one-third of U. S. adults (35. 7%) and approximately 17% (or 12. 5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese. (www. cdc. gov) In 2009-2010 the age-adjusted mean BMI was 28. (95% CI, 28. 3-29. 1) for men and also 28. 7 (95% CI, 28. 4-29. 0) for women. Median BMI was 27. 8 (interquartile range [IQR], 24. 7-31. 7) for men and 27. 3 (IQR, 23. 3-32. 7) for women. The age-adjusted prevalence of obesity was 35. 5% (95% CI, 31. 9%-39. 2%) among adult men and 35. 8% (95% CI, 34. 0%-37. 7%) among adult women. Over the 12-year period from 1999 through 2010, obesity showed no significant increase among women overall (age- and race-adjusted annual change in odds ratio [AOR], 1. 01; 95% CI, 1. 00-1. 03; P = . 07), but increases were statistically significant for non-Hispanic black women (P = . 4) and Mexican American women (P = . 046). For men, there was a significant linear trend (AOR, 1. 04; 95% CI, 1. 02-1. 06; P ; . 001) over the 12-year period. For both men and women, the most recent 2 years (2009-2010) did not differ significantly (P = . 08 for men and P = . 24 for women) from the previous 6 years (2003-2008). Trends in BMI were similar to obesity trends. (NHANES) With the increase in BMI it can lead to many diseases which are heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and Metabolic Syndrome. Reducing the risks To reduce the risks of obesity you first need to be educated on the risks and how you became a risk factor. Then you need to change your eating habits to a healthy diet. You will need to increase your regular exercise and decrease inactivity. Go to the doctors and figure out a healthy path to get in control. Citations 1. Definitions and examples of double plurals in English

A double plural is the  plural form of a noun with an additional plural ending (usually -s) attached —  for example, candelabras (singular, candelabrum; plural, candelabra) or sixpences (singular, penny; plural, pence). In addition, the term double plural is occasionally used to refer to a noun with two plurals that differ in meaning, such as brothers and brethren (plurals of brother). Examples and Observations: In the light of the debate between environmental advocates and oil industries, the state officials discovered that the flooding had also released other bacterias that pose a serious health threat.(Colorado Flooding Exposes Huge Environmental Damage. Digital Journal, September 28, 2013)Bacteria is the Latin plural form [of bacterium]. In formal and scientific writing, it is always treated as plural and used with a plural verb: These bacteria are clearly visible when stained. In everyday English, bacteria is also used as a singular noun meaning a strain of bacteria: They said it was a bacteria, not a virus. This singular use has generated a double plural: bacterias. Bacterias, meaning strains of bacteria, is fairly common in journalism, but not suited for technical or formal writing.(Margery Fee and Janice McAlpine, Guide to Canadian English Usage, 2nd ed. Oxford University Press, 2007)Paparazzi(s)Back through the system with the riffraff again Fiends on the floor scratching again Papar azzis with their cameras snapping them...(Jay-Z, 99 Problems. The Black Album, 2004)paparazzi (photographers who follow celebrities, often aggressively, in hopes of snapping candid photos) is a plural; paparazzo is the singular. Originally Italian —  invented for Frederico Fellinis film La Dolce Vita (1960) —  the term first surfaced in English in the mid-1960s. Unfortunately, because the singular form is so rare, some writers have begun using the misbegotten double plural *paparazzis...(Bryan Garner, Garners Modern American Usage. Oxford University Press, 2009) From Old English to Modern English Modern English breeches is a double plural (OE nominative singular broc trouser, nominative plural brec), as is ... kine (OE nominative singular cu cow, nominative plural cy with the addition of the plural -n from words like oxen). (John Algeo, The Origins and Development of the English Language, 6th ed. Wadsworth, 2010)OE cildru children belonged to a very small minor class of neuter nouns having a plural in -ru; the /r/ has survived in PDE [present-day English], but an additional weak -n plural has been added, giving PDE children a double plural. (Celia M. Millward and Mary Hayes, A Biography of the English Language, 3rd ed. Wadsworth, 2012) Kate Burridge on Double Plurals Occasionally, people using incident in the plural give it a double plural  Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã‚  incidentses. Incidents doesnt sound plural enough —  just as quince (in 1300s one coyn and many coyns) didnt for early English speakers (Quinces is historically a double plural). (Kate Burridge, Gift of the Gob: Morsels of English Language History. HarperCollins Australia, 2011)They stopped and formed a semicircle around the microphone. Everywhere there is a crisis, they sang together. Every time they throw the dices.(Richard Lockridge, Murder Roundabout, 1966)This same process is currently affecting the word dice. Dice was traditionally the plural of die small cube with six faces, but is now being reinterpreted as singular. In this case weve also got a split happening. In specialist contexts die is still being used as a singular noun for metal stamp for coining. The dice used in gaming has a new reformulated plural, technically a double plural, dices (though some speakers still use dice as plural) ...When speakers dont feel words to be plural enough, they add another plural marker for good measure.(Kate Burridge, Blooming English: Observations on the Roots, Cultivation and Hybrids of the English Language. Cambridge University Press, 2004) Double Plurals in Irish English Both [Terence Patrick] Dolan [in  A Dictionary of Hiberno-English, 2006] and [Jiro] Taniguchi [in A Grammatical Analysis of Artistic Representation of Irish English, 1972] ... draw attention to double plural forms (or what Taniguchi calls vulgar forms) which also occasionally appear in Irish English. These involve the addition of /É™z/ to existing plurals which end in -s. Dolan offers the examples of bellowses for bellows and galluses for gallus, an obsolete form of the word gallows meaning braces. Taniguchi, on the other hand, cites newses as a plural for news (1972: 10). While I have not encountered the latter form, I have frequently heard other forms, such as pantses and knickerses. What is more, the film corpus displays the forms chipses and barrackses.(Shane Walshe, Irish English as Represented in Film. Diss., Peter Lang GmbH, 2009)My mother used always to laugh because when they met Mrs. Hogan used to say any newses and look up at her, with that wild stare, opening her mou th to show the big gaps between her front teeth, but the newses had at last come to her own door, and though she must have minded dreadfully she seemed vexed more than ashamed, as if it was inconvenience rather than disgrace that had hit her.(Edna OBrien, A Scandalous Woman. Stories by Contemporary Irish Women, ed. by Daniel J. Casey and Linda M. Casey. Syracuse University Press, 1990) Double Plurals in Russian Anglicisms In general, words tend to be borrowed as unanalysed wholes, their internal structure being opaque to the borrower. Russian speakers are therefore often not aware of the meaning of the English plural morpheme -s; this can lead to double plural marking through the addition of a Russian inflection to an English plural; as in pampersy, dzhinsy, chipsy. (Tamara Maximova, Russian. English in Europe, ed. by Manfred Gà ¶rlach. Oxford University Press, 2002)
